Read MoreWinter in Yellowstone
Something that I have been wanting to do for many years is see and photograph Yellowstone in the winter. I can’t count how many times I have heard people say, if you like Yellowstone in the summer, you will love it in the fall.
There are some obvious differences between summer and winter and they can be even more extreme in Yellowstone. Weather of course is the driving factor. Snow and sub zero temperatures make for compelling images and very few visitors. In fact most of Yellowstone is closed in the winter to public vehicle traffic and licensed snow coaches and regulated snowmobile tours are the only way to see most of Yellowstone in the winter. The road between Cooke City and Gardiner on the north edge of the park is open to allow the school bus to get the students from Cooke City over to school in Gardiner. This road follows the Lamar Valley and has many opportunities for wildlife viewing and some great landscapes too.
We spent 7 days in the park, starting at West Yellowstone on the east and moving up eventually to Gardiner, near the Mammoth entrance in the north. It was a wonderful experience and I do recommend that if you can handle the cold (we had one day that started out at -22 F (-30 C) ) that you experience it for yourself.
Scroll down to see some images from this trip in January 2019. Clicking on them should bring them up close to full screen.
Thanks!
Another great trip to California
In May I was invited to this really cool multi-day event that Sony puts on that they call Kando. This year was the second year it was held in Monterey, California. While I was there I was able to sit in on learning opportunities with some of the better known photographers that use Sony cameras. A couple of the sessions involved photographing people, something I don't do a lot of. I even learned about lighting and there were professional models working with us making everything easier. During that session I really felt that the models and my camera were doing most of the work once the lighting was set up.
It was a 3 day + thing and I must say that I came away from it with a deeper understanding of a lot of the photographic disciplines that I don't usually do. I met some really nice and talented people as well.
I flew out a week ahead of the Kando event to visit my daughter and her fiance, who live in California and then drove around some familiar places and some new places in California and Oregon following interesting weather when I could. I borrowed my daughters camper van and camped as much as possible.
Here are a few images from the "camping" trip
And Here are a few images taken at Kando.
Treasure Beach, Jamaica
Treasure Beach on the quiet southwest corner of Jamaica holds the Calabash Literary Festival every two years. This was my first trip to Jamaica. I went with my friend Rob who goes to Treasure Beach every year in July to run a clinic. He sees hundreds of people while he is there as a dermatologist and although the folks that he knows there knew he was coming this time for fun, they talked him into doing an ad hoc clinic anyway.
I really enjoyed Jamaica, Treasure Beach and the Calabash Festival. I left my computer at home by design and forgot my phone in my car at the airport parking lot (by accident) so I was chillin' big time for the 4 days we were there.
Here are a few images from the festival and the beautiful area that it was held in.
My new website!
I have had a website for over 20 years.. delargy.com. It was a place to chronicle family stuff and photos of our travel, local and global. As I got more and more into photography and social media took over the web, it became clear that I needed to have a web site specifically for my photography endeavors and one that I could update easily. The old website isn't easy to update anymore and it looks like it is from the 80's.
I will try to post here along with FB , Instagram, 500px, etc what my most recent photo adventures are. I will also try to use this platform to give a more detailed backstory to some of the images and perhaps even some tutorial content eventually. By the time I publish this I hope to have a few blog posts to get the ball rolling.
The two I am thinking about are from my recent trip to Jamaica for the Calabash Literary Festival and my trip in May to California for the Sony Kando event.
For those of you who have asked about purchasing prints, I do hope to be able to sell prints through this website and hopefully the prices will be fair. Usually the photographer gets a small cut as the printer does the heavy work AFTER the image has been created of course ;)
I hope you will enjoy viewing my photography as much as I enjoy doing it. Let me know your thoughts.
